On the occasion of Womens' Day, I wish to share my joyous greetings with all the women in my life. "May the spirit of freedon.. joy of womanhood.. power of equality.. and the celebration of life be yours..today and forever" was the message I sent out to my friends and family.
It is sad that women are fighting it out for 33% reservation in parliament. Should it not be 50%? I, for one, do not think reservation of any percentage is needed at all. It is belittling women. Why just 33% or 50%? Are they not capable of more than that? If they are, what is rightfully theirs cannot be held back from women for too long. What percentage of reservation did Smt.Pratibha need to become President? Or for Sania to excel in tennis? To the eternal Kalpana to fly away to the stars?
On the lighter side, a friend of mine took exception to me wishing her on Women's Day. The reason? She claims she is still a girl. Was she right? Funny species indeed!
